Same as the rest of the body. You can use lotions with 1% hydrocortisone, moisturizers to massage the skin and shampoo containing reducing substances (tarr). Short hair is to be recommended. Perfumed shampoos should be avoided.

No, because application of water alone on the skin will not reduce the dryness of the skin.
What are the side effects of steroids for eczema?
If used appropriately, according to age of the child and in low concentration these local treatments have no side effects, even after years of application. If very potent corticosteroids are used, this may result in reduction of skin thickness (atrophic skin) or in systemic effects. Always seek the advice of your doctors before using any steroid creams to ensure that it is appropriate and also for monitoring of response.
Do dietary supplements with EPO, flax seed and Vitamin E help eczema?
No, many supplements have been studied, and none of these have been shown to be effective.
Does sunlight aggravate eczema?
Sunlight can have different effects on eczema. Sudden and intense sunlight exposure can worsen eczema by the induction of inflammation in the sun-exposed skin. However, gradual and mild sun exposure may have some anti-inflammatory effect of UV light by inducing a membrane stabilisation of different inflammatory cells (including mast cells). It is very important to avoid sun burns by using appropriate protective ointments.
Does air-conditioning worsen asthma?
There is no reported study demonstrating the effects of aircon on eczema. Prolonged exposure to air-conditioning can aggravate dryness of the skin and may worsen eczema. Also, accumulation of house dust mite allergens can also have similar effects. However, in hot humid climates, air-conditioning can decrease sweating and reduce itching which may indirectly have a beneficial effect on eczema. |
