The “I CAN!” Workshop for Primary Care Physicians and Clinic Assistants
The Children’s Asthma and Allergy Network emphasizes the promotion of education in childhood asthma and allergies not only to patients and the public but also to the primary healthcare providers. One major effort is our series of regional workshops for general practitioners and clinic assistants.
The most recent session was held at the Tampines Safra on the 8th April 2004. Deliberately kept to a small exclusive group to enhance interaction and discussion, over 16 general practitioners (including paediatricians) practicing in the vicinity attended an interesting and practical session based on clinical case illustrations. The clinic assistants, numbering over 15 as well, attended a concurrent session in a separate function room where they were trained on the techniques of inhaler administration together with practical hands-on experience. The whole programme was carried out through lunch, which was provided buffet-style, and received very favorable comments and feedback from the attendees (CME points were awarded as well). This programme continues in the next quarter in the northern part of Singapore. A total of six such sessions are planned for this year alone in various parts of the island. Look out for our next session in your neighborhood!
